Breaking Barriers in Lake Como: A Call for Inclusivity and Progress

The journey to progress often requires bold decisions and fresh perspectives. When I founded Keep Lake Como Beautiful (KLCB), I envisioned a community-led initiative focused on addressing the systemic challenges that have long hindered the growth and safety of the Lake Como neighborhood. Today, I’m excited to share a pivotal milestone in that journey: KLCB is now a registered "Redevelopment Organization" with the City of Fort Worth Community Engagement Office. Here’s what this means and why it matters for our community.
What Led to This Decision?

For years, Lake Como has faced unique challenges—from crime and litter to the perception of neglect—and solutions have often been met with resistance or exclusionary practices. Existing entities, while well-meaning, have not always welcomed new ideas or voices from all corners of our community, particularly those bringing fresh perspectives and progressive solutions. This lack of inclusivity motivated me to take action.
By registering KLCB as a Redevelopment Organization, we now have a stronger platform to:
Engage Residents: Empower neighbors to take ownership of their blocks through programs like On My Block (OMB).
Tackle Core Issues: Address crime, illegal dumping, bulk waste, and other critical concerns.
Unify Efforts: Bridge divides among residents, associations, and partners to create a shared vision for Lake Como’s future.
How This Aligns with KLCB’s Mission
Becoming a Redevelopment Organization isn’t just a label; it’s a natural extension of what KLCB already does. Our mission to create a stronger, safer, and more connected Lake Como aligns seamlessly with the goals of a Redevelopment Organization. Here’s why:
Community-Based Leadership: At KLCB, every initiative is guided by residents and stakeholders who are deeply invested in the neighborhood’s well-being.
Focus on Revitalization: Programs like OMB target public safety, beautification, and community engagement—key components of any successful redevelopment strategy.
Support for Broader Development: While KLCB’s primary focus isn’t housing or commercial projects, our efforts lay the groundwork for broader economic and social renewal by making Lake Como a safer and more appealing place to live, work and play.
Benefits of the Redevelopment Organization Designation
This designation offers tangible benefits that will enhance our ability to serve the Lake Como community:
Early Notifications: We now receive zoning and planning updates, allowing us to proactively advocate for community needs.
Stronger Advocacy: Our voice carries more weight in discussions with city officials, developers, and other stakeholders.
Aligned Goals: KLCB’s work intersects with broader urban development and environmental initiatives, positioning us as a critical partner in shaping Lake Como’s future.
Why This Matters for You
For residents and community organizations, this milestone represents an opportunity to unite around a shared vision for Lake Como. The challenges we face—from public safety to neighborhood disinvestment—can only be addressed through collaboration. By embracing this designation, KLCB is better equipped to:
Advocate for equitable policies and resources.
Foster partnerships that bring meaningful change.
Preserve and celebrate the unique character of Lake Como.
Moving Forward, Together
As we look ahead to 2025, our goals remain clear: increase resident participation, reduce crime and litter, and foster a cohesive, engaged community. We invite you to join us in this journey.
