This year, 2025, marks an incredible milestone for the Lake Como neighborhood: 120 years of history, resilience, and community pride. As we celebrate this rich legacy, Keep Lake Como Beautiful (KLCB) is proud to announce another historic achievement—our designation as a registered “Neighborhood Redevelopment Organization” with the City of Fort Worth.
This new status not only honors Lake Como’s storied past but also positions KLCB to lead the charge toward a brighter, more sustainable future for our community.
What Does It Mean to Be a “Redevelopment Organization”?
Registering as a "Neighborhood Redevelopment Organization" affirms KLCB’s grassroots leadership and mission to revitalize Lake Como. It means that KLCB is now officially recognized as a key player in community-based leadership, redevelopment efforts, and neighborhood planning. Here's how this designation aligns with who we are and what we stand for:
Community-Based Leadership: KLCB is driven by the voices, needs, and aspirations of Lake Como residents, ensuring that our work reflects the priorities of the people who live here.
Revitalization Focus: Through initiatives like the On My Block (OMB) program, KLCB works tirelessly to improve neighborhood safety, reduce crime and litter, and foster a sense of pride and engagement—laying the foundation for broader economic and social renewal.
Support for Redevelopment Projects: While KLCB doesn’t directly oversee large-scale housing or commercial developments, our focus on infrastructure, public safety, and community engagement indirectly supports these efforts by creating a more appealing and cohesive neighborhood.
How This Designation Helps Lake Como
Becoming a Redevelopment Organization enhances KLCB’s ability to advocate for Lake Como’s future in meaningful ways:
Early Courtesy Notification System: We now receive early updates on zoning and planning changes, allowing us to ensure the community’s needs are considered in development decisions.
Stronger Influence: This designation strengthens our partnerships with city officials, developers, and organizations, giving Lake Como a seat at the table in conversations about redevelopment.
Alignment with Urban Planning Goals: KLCB’s efforts naturally intersect with city initiatives focused on public safety, environmental sustainability, and equitable growth. We can now act as a vital bridge between residents and city resources.
Honoring the Past, Building for the Future
The story of Lake Como is one of resilience and unity. From its origins as a haven for African American families in the early 20th century to its vibrant and diverse community today, Lake Como has always been a place defined by its people.
KLCB’s work as a Redevelopment Organization honors this legacy by tackling the systemic issues that have challenged our neighborhood—like disinvestment, inequitable policies, and public safety concerns. At the same time, it equips us with the tools and partnerships needed to build a stronger, safer, and more connected Lake Como for the next 120 years.
How You Can Be Part of the Journey
KLCB’s work is powered by residents, volunteers, and supporters like you. As we embrace our new role as a Redevelopment Organization, there are even more ways to get involved:

Together, we can honor the legacy of those who built Lake Como while shaping a future filled with opportunity, equity, and pride.
